Where were you and where was I back in the days? Where everything seemed more vast, more free, more simple, and the sun would never set! So it was. Back in '77 my family migrated here to Los Angeles from Hong Kong. Funny I knew a bit of Brit English then and when I came here, I didn't understand a lick of what the Americans were talking about. That made me a very [even more so] quiet boy in school.
I remember visiting my cousin's place every now and then... She would have these 45 rpm's and 8-track cassettes lying about. I never gave it much thought listening to music back then, but these days when I hear the same songs again, all I can think about is "Hey, I'm still here. 30 some odd years later, I'm STILL here!" It's a bit of a sad yet glorious feeling.
I'm thinking my 3 most memorable songs from the late 70's were James Taylor's Handy Man, Dr. Hook's Sharing The Night Together and Fleetwood Mac's Dreams... but oh boy, and many others. So many favorites! When I listen to these tracks, I can't help but to reminisce on the things that I did and didn't do, but I'm sure even some of the most treasured memories have long since forgotten... Time has that affect on me.
Also artists like Bread, Dan Folgelberg, Michael Johnson, JD Souther & Rita Coolidge... I guess I was really into mellow rock back then, if one would call it 'rock' at all. Anyway, silly post innit? Right now I'm listening to Commadores' Easy Like Sunday Morning... the piano in the beginning of the song still gives me goosebumps...

It was 1977 when I started to buy records and 8-track tapes. Remember when you'd have to tape a penny to the arm of the record player so the record wouldn't skip? Some of those sappy loves songs from the '70s were actually quite racy. "really like your peaches, wanna shake your tree..."

I was born in 1977. I don't remember much of the music or popular culture of the 80's. My siblings and I spent most of the time playing and having fun. I don't remember watching t.v. that much.

I think I was a sophomore in high school. I don't remember much else but I do have my diaries from that period. I should get them out and remember.

I loved the soft rock from that era. I was more into Steely Dan, The Eagles, and Anne Murray  The 70's were supposed to be so free. Free love, sex, drugs, and rock and roll. But compared to today, it seems like an innocent time.

Amazing how music can do that, isn't it? Bring you right back to a place and time you once were. That happens to me too, even when I'm just driving. A song would come on and I'd start crying since I remember a time when the song had a different meaning to me..
Wow, I actually know some of the artists you mentioned.. Baby I'ma want you, Baby I'ma need you... Coz I'm bluer than blue, sadder than sad :P
6 yrs after you moved here, I was just being born :) Amazing blogging help us stumble through folks we otherwise would have never met. And I'm thankful for that.. Have a great week Rob!!!

Not a silly post at all. I am impressed with your musical selection given how YOUNG you were back then. I was 9 in 1977 and that year saw me moving out of the house I was born in. And we moved less than a mile away. Four homes and 31 years later, I'm still less than a mile away. ACK!
