It's a fairly big day today... the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony is happening right now as I am typing! I'm by far not a sports fan myself, but having people all around the globe unite makes me giddy. Even though every one will be competing against one another, it's still a celebration to me. Years of training for all these athletes is triumphant itself! yet no single individual is a winner, every one person and nation and country is a winner!!
I read that tonight's ceremony is choreographed by Zhang Yimou himself... to me, that alone is well worth watching. I wonder if they'll broadcast the entire 4hr celebration? Microwaveable buttered popcorn? Check! I am hoping they'll have the Thousand-Hand Kuanyin Dance [Quicktime video] performance by the China Disabled People's Performaning Art Troupe (CDPPAT) tonight, but I'm not sure. I posted the above video a year and a half ago and now that I am watching it again, again I got a bit teary-eyed towards the end when the man walked up and pulled down the flag for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

If you'll be watching the opening ceremony tonight, I hope you'll enjoy the show. Happy Friday everyone and have a great weekend!! xoxo

I recorded the opening ceremonies but have yet to watch them since returning from Michigan. However, I didn't like the story about China not using the original girl who sang the song for reasons related to the fact that she was not cute enough. That still sticks in my mind. :-|

Stunning. The Chinese have set a new artistic standard that may reign for decades.

I watched about two hours of the opening ceremonies this morning before work.
Both my husband and I had tears in our eyes; it was VERY moving and beautiful!
I will not spoil it for others but it is truly a spectacular event...
