Amethyst purple, rosy-shaded red, tangerine orange and baby soft blues... The early skies from this Tuesday morning was particularly gorgeous and spectacular. Just one look, you know there was a silver lining in there somewhere. I was heading west and had to look back several times to see its magnificence. Truly sublime!
Another year. It has only been a week but it feels like 2 months since we rung in the new year! Actually I went to bed on New Year's Eve at 11pm and woke up at 1am... I looked at my alarm clock with the glow-in-the-dark hands, smiled, then went back to sleep.
Not sure how much I'll be writing this year. I used to have plenty to say in my old blog. Remember Mrhappysad? Black background [oooh!] with white text? These days, I think my mind is a bit more clearer, less crowded [or is it empty?!]... maybe that's why I don't have much to say. This morning I even took out the background image. I like the openness. I always have.
No resolutions for me. I'm just happy that we all made it through another year and everyone is still healthy. Keep it up everybody!!! But my grandmother had a couple of falls this past month and the last one gave her a big goose-egg on the back of her head! :-( Poor grandma. When we fall, sure, no problem, we get back up. But when you're 97yo, it can scare the life out of you... But day by day, she's getting better. I'll go see her again this weekend.
So lately I haven't been writing much, nor taken many pictures, but I have been reading every night. I know I know... My life isn't all that exciting, but I can still be excited about life itself? Yeah? :-)
In 2008, many troublous times for everyone, so I hope 2009 will be a quieter and prosperous year for all... Every nation and country, every city and town, every one and every body. Did I miss anything? Finding the silver lining... it's out there.
Anyway, I re-read something from Dogen today, so I'll just leave you with that! *hugs to everybody*

Enlightenment is like the moon reflected on the water.
The moon does not get wet, nor is the water broken.
Although its light is wide and great, the moon is reflected even in a puddle an inch wide.
The whole moon and the entire sky are reflected in one dewdrop on the grass.

I am hoping to continue doing more reading and less TV watching while it's still cold outside. It was an embarrassment to acknowledge what I haven't read. Or should I say, "Dont remember reading?" Here's to a year of "Enlightenment" with "clearer" and "open" minds. :-)

I don't believe in resolutions for myself any longer. I believe in personal evolution and I don't think that happens just because the calendar year changes. Plus it puts too much unnecessary pressure.
Two things:
1) I hope grandma feels better soon! I know I don't have to say this but...treasure the time you have. When I think that this time last year I was still having my phone conversations about the presidential election with Nana and getting her letters in the mail each week and now...she's gone, I just wish I could go back to those moments again.
2) I love your writing, even when it isn't about the "exciting" moments of life it is always a joy. And your photographs more often than not bring a smile to my face - I hope you won't be too "absent" in 2009 :p

Reading every night sounds like a great way to spend time.
